Marjorie Mae Harris, 100, of Willmar, died Thursday, October 14th at Carris Health Care Center and Therapy Suites in Willmar. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 22nd at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Marjorie was born December 29, 1920, in Willmar, the daughter of Axel and Augusta (Mostue) Erickson. She grew up in Willmar, was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School in 1938. She continued her education at St. Cloud Teachers College She was united in marriage to Merlin “Dutch” Hollen on May 24, 1943. They lived in Willmar, Minneapolis, Two Harbors and Schroeder. Dutch preceded her in death in 1957. In 1959 she was united in marriage to Earl Harris. They lived in Willmar, where Marjorie stayed home and raised her children, Bonnie, Thomas, Nancy, Kathie, Laurie and Steven.
Marjorie was an active member of Vinje Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed various types of handiwork including sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. Marjorie couldn’t pass up going to garage sales and would often come home with numerous pieces of glassware and anything else she thought she should collect! She was an avid MN Twins and Timberwolves fan, watching them whenever they were on TV. She liked playing Bingo with her dear friend, Esther, and also was an avid reader. After her eyesight was failing, she could be often found listening to books on tape. Marjorie always had a zest for life, even enjoying a motorcycle ride in her late 80’s with her son-in-law, Dennis.
Surviving are her children: Bonnie (Dennis) Rice of Grand Terrace, CA; Nancy (Stephen) Rehm of St. Cloud; Kathie Olin of Agoura Hills, CA; Laurie (Tom) Thrush of St. Cloud and Steven (Pam) Harris of Willmar; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Dutch and Earl; son, Tom, and sister, Eunice Musgjerd.
