Mark A. Thissen, 71, of Clara City died Saturday, March 14th at his home surrounded by his family.
Due to recent health concerns there will be a public Graveside service at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 18th at St. Clara’s Catholic Cemetery in Clara City with a memorial Mass at a later date.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 17th at Harvey Anderson’s Clara City Funeral Home and on Wednesday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, www.hafh.org.
Mark Allen Thissen was born April 9, 1948, in Willmar, the son of Alois “Sailor” and Edith (Rottunda) Thissen. He grew up in Clara City where he attended St. Clara Catholic School and Clara City High School. He attended college in Willmar and joined the National Guard. He moved to Browns Valley, MN, where he owned and operated Interlake Elevator, this led him to his next enjoyment of farming. In 1994, he started working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2014. During this time, he was united in marriage to Nancy J. Harguth on August 18, 1973. Mark was baptized and confirmed at St. Clara’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the church council. Mark also served on the city council and was a member of the America Legion.
He enjoyed spending time with family, be it at the lake, farm, or at home. Mark enjoyed motorcycle rides and his many trips to Wabasso. He enjoyed leisurely drives around town and the countryside with friends.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; children: Angie Thissen of Minneapolis, Troy (and Missy) Thissen of Clara City, Stacy (and Robert) Zimmerman of Aberdeen, SD, and Danielle (and Josh) Guertin of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Logan, Jaden, Michael, Grace, Teagan, and Ava; and siblings: Marilyn (and Dale) Hedlund, Greg (and Joy) Thissen, Rita Toussaint, Genevieve (and Ralph) Tomaino, Steven (and Debbie) Thissen and Robert (and Shannon) Thissen and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William; sister, Carol; and his mother and father-in-law, Carol and Cecil Harguth.
