Marlene D. Halls, 83 of Brooten, died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Marlene Dianne Halls was born on Nove 3, 1937 in Starbuck, the daughter of Alvin and Gladys (Davidson) Gulsvig. She grew-up in Pope Country, Benson and Minneapolis where she graduated from Edison High School. On May 12, 1956, Marlene was united in marriage to Allan Halls at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church near Swift Falls. They made their home in Gilchrist Township where they farmed. Marlene and Allan shared in 60 years of marriage before Allan’s death on July 6, 2016.
Marlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and choir. She was member of Homemaker Group, Legion Auxiliary, Zetic Study Group and served as a 4-H leader when her children were young.
Marlene s survived by her children, Martha Halls (Marcus Kunz), Marie (David) Campbell and Mark (Michelle) Halls; grandchildren: Erin Campbell, Adam (AnnMarie) Campbell, Annie Campbell, Kelly (Mike) Short, Christopher (Kelly Jo) Halls, Kimberly (Charles) Duchene, Andrew Kunz and Daniel (Kyle) Kunz; great-grandchildren: Sydney, Taiton, Brooklyn and Brienna Boersma, Karaline and Maggie Short, Kinsey, Kyla and Chase Halls, and Mac and Finn Campbell and siblings Richard (Judy) Gulsvig, Marsha Gulsvig and Paul Gulsvig. She was preceded in death by husband, Allan; parents and step-mother, Helen and siblings, Darrell, Glenn and Raymond.
