Marlin L. Kroona Sr, 83, of Spicer, died Tuesday, May 14th at his home. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Friday, May 24th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Marlin was born June 27, 1935, in Willmar, MN, the son of Adolph and Edith (Nelson) Kroona. He was raised in Kandiyohi County, attended Whittier School in Kandiyohi and graduated from Willmar High School in 1953. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
On November 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Betty Wiegmann in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Kandiyohi from 1956-1973 and in Willmar from 1973 – 1993 when they moved to their home on Green Lake. He worked Central Dairy for 20 years before becoming disabled in 1970.
He was baptized August 21, 1935 and confirmed August 21, 1948 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi. Since living in Willmar, they have been members of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Marly was a member of the American Legion and Ducks Unlimited. He loved fishing, boating, hunting, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He could often be found just sitting outside watching the birds, and enjoying nature.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; children: Marlin (and Sue) Kroona Jr. of Glenham, SD; Janet (and significant other, Doug Raudabough) Kroona of St. Cloud; Jay (and Cindi) Kroona of Willmar; James (and Melanie) Kroona of Willmar and Jon (and Ruth) Kroona of Chugiak, AK; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Ruby Kroona of Belle Vista, AR and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mitchell, in infancy, and brother, Warner.
