Marlyn “Swede” Haverly, 80 of Spicer, died Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2019 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake near New London. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
Marlyn E. Haverly was born on September 3, 1939 in Willmar, the son of Austin and Hazel (Overson) Haverly. He was baptized and confirmed at Green Lake Lutheran Church. He grew up in Willmar and attended Willmar High School. On May 26, 1958, Swede was united in marriage to Beverly Dahlbeck. The made their home in the New London area where he worked in the construction field until his retirement. In retirement he served as a loving husband and caregiver to Bev. They were able to share in 59 years of marriage before her death on December 6, 2017.
Swede attended First Lutheran of Norway Lake and was proud to of renewed his baptism as an adult. His passion was hunting, fishing and trapping with his family and friends. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and demolition derbies.
Swede is survived by his children, Pamela Behr (& Bob Lundgren), Melinda (& Harry) Kraus, Michelle Nipp (& Dave Kellermann), Jill Haverly (& Georgena Mattos), Jason (& Corie) Haverly and Derrik Haverly; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Delroy (Shirley) Haverly, Tootsie (Jerry) Post and Bonnie Foster
Swede was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; daughter, Kimberly and grandchildren, Jeremy and Hannah.
