Marlys Gilbertson, 80, of Hawick, died, Thursday, March 27 at her home in Hawick. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday, March 31 at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Marlys Pahl was born on April 18, 1944, to Wesley and Helen (Martinson) Pahl in Benson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1962. On December 7, 1963, Marlys married Wallace (Butch) Gilbertson in Benson, and together they were blessed with four children.
In 1977, the family moved to Hawick, where Marlys continued to reside. She was a dedicated homemaker and took great pride in her gardens, particularly her flowers. Marlys also enjoyed drawing, painting, and had a love for horses. Above all, she cherished her time with her grandchildren.
Marlys is survived by her children: Shelley (Kevin) Sulier of Kerkhoven, Sherry (Jon) Norstedt of New London, and Daryl Gilbertson of Hawick; daughter-in-law, Kris Gilbertson of New London; grandchildren: Josh, Kayla, Sadie, Justin, Adam, Ryan, Luke, Sam, Alyssa, and Katelyn; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Wanda (Larry) Thoreson of Zimmerman, Dallas (Gary West) Pahl of Pueblo, CO, and Louis (Lynn) Pahl of Milaca. Additionally, she is survived by Wallace’s siblings: Ramona Hall of Minneapolis, Craig (Barb) Hartwick of Minneapolis, Lori (Patrick) Jennings of Mukwonago, WI, and Dawne (Russ) Soldner of Reeseville, WI.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; son, Edward; parents, Wesley and Helen. She was further preceded in death by her sisters, Mavis Staton and Pat Mitchell; in-laws, Wallace and Ruth Gilbertson.
