Marlys Elizabeth Miller, 92, formerly of Fargo, died Wednesday, November 1st at CentraCare Rice Hospital in Willmar. Her memorial service will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, November 18th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service. Memorials are preferred to the Special Olympics or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Marlys Elizabeth Miller was born July 26, 1931, to Peter and Scholastica (Bernard) Wawers in Hankinson, ND. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Catholic faith in Fairmount, ND. She attended school in Fairmount and graduated from high school in 1950. Marlys furthered her education at Valley City State University. After college she taught at a rural school for a year before working at Peoples State Bank in Fairmount, ND.
On April 23, 1952, Marlys was united in marriage to Lyle Miller in Fairmount. To this union four children were born: Tim, Dan, Susan and Lisa. In 1952, Lyle and Marlys moved to the farmstead outside of Christine where Lyle farmed and Marlys helped by providing hearty meals for Lyle and the farm help. Marlys also worked at Deveaus Music Store in Fargo, ND from 1959-1964.
In 1964 they moved to Kindred, ND where they resided until 1991. Marlys enjoyed working at A&W Motors where she was a part time bookkeeper for 10 years. Marlys and Lyle were founding members of St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred. Marlys was active in the church where she taught religious education classes and enjoyed her time with the church women’s group. In 1991, they retired and moved to Fargo, ND.
Marlys loved going to her children and grandchildren’s events and also camping at Tony’s Campground on Lake Ida, which she did for 16 years. She was proud to volunteer at United Blood Services and also at Sanford and Essentia Hospital. Marlys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
Marlys is survived by her children: Tim (Jane) Miller of Rochert, Dan (Maureen) Miller of Wenatchee, WA, Susan (Dan) Duffey of Lakeville, and Lisa (Doug) Ruter of Willmar, 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Wawers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, parents and all 7 siblings.
