Marvin Carlson, age 88, of Pennock, died Friday, November 20, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
A walk-through visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Wednesday, November 25, at Salem Covenant Church near Pennock followed by a graveside service at the church cemetery. Social distancing and masks will be required. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Marvin Howard Carlson was born March 26, 1932 in Pillsbury Township, near Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Edna (Johnson) Carlson. He grew up in the rural Kerkhoven area and attended country school. He then began working on the family farm and hauled milk for the Sunburg Creamery. On June 19, 1959, he married Patricia Pelkey at the United Methodist Church in Hawick. They lived and farmed in Mamre Township, near Pennock. Marvin raised cows and pigs and grew crops for many years. In 1991, he stopped milking his cows, but continued to work on the farm through this year’s harvest. Marvin worked hard farming, but always made time for morning and afternoon coffee.
Marvin was a member Salem Covenant Church. He enjoyed working with his hands and wood-working. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially when it was with his grandkids or nephews.
He is survived by his wife: Patricia; his three children: Howard (and Terri) Carlson of Kerkhoven, Julie (and Tim) Andres of Spicer, and LuAnn Carlson of Willmar; three grandchildren: Amber Carlson, Tayler Carlson, and Travis Carlson; a sister: Marilyn Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Dorothy Riley and Marjorie Carlson.
