Mary Jo Luce, 85, of Willmar, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, November 30, 2024, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Mary Jo’s memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes, www.hafh.org.
Mary Jo was born April 12, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Dr. Raymond K. and Margaret (Starbuck) Proeschel. She grew up and received her education in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School in 1957. Following high school, Mary Jo earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Hamline University, graduating in 1961. From 1961 to 1964, she served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station near Chicago. Following her discharge, Mary Jo worked as a nurse in the Twin Cities area. In 1978, she moved to Willmar and concluded her nursing career after working for many years at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center. During her career, Mary Jo was active with the Minnesota Nurses Association.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Mary Jo enjoyed music and played piano and sang in the choir in her younger years. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling.
Mary Jo is survived by her two sons: Fred Luce and Andrew Luce; five grandchildren; a sister: Elizabeth Wold; a brother: Mark (Donna) Proeschel; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and older brother: Jack Proeschel.
