Maxine A. Schmit, 80, of Jordan, formerly of Willmar, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Oak Terrace Senior Living in Jordan. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes.

Maxine was born May 31, 1946, in Olivia, Minnesota, to Bernard and Ida (Collier) Brown.  She grew up in Olivia, was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and graduated from Olivia High School in 1964.  Following high school she attended Willmar Community College.

On September 9, 1967, Maxine was united in marriage to Willard Dufresne, and a son, Jason, was born to their marriage.  Willard was killed in action in 1969, during the Vietnam War.  On November 26, 1971, she was united in marriage to Michael “Mick” Schmit.  They made their home in Willmar and a daughter, Jennifer, was born to their marriage.  Maxine and Mick continued to live in Willmar until moving to Jordan in recent years to be near their children.

Maxine was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar and sang in the church choir throughout the 1980s.  She enjoyed golfing and played in the Wednesday Night Ladies League at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar for many years.  Maxine and Mick enjoyed traveling to Arizona in their camper during the winter.  Most of all, Maxine loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by her husband: Michael “Mick” of Jordan; her children: Jason (Jennifer) Schmit of Jordan, and Jennifer Worshek of Jordan.  She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Zach, Riley, Nick, Tyler, Annie, Lily, Ben, Gabe and Finley Schmit; and Maya and Emma Worshek and four siblings: Tom, Pat, Dave, and Marian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband: Willard Dufresne; and five siblings: Elmer, Anna, Bernard, Barbara, and Bridget.
