Mervin E. Martin, 86, of Willmar, formerly of Sunburg, died Friday, October 17th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 24th at Bethel Baptist Church in Kerkhoven with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Mervin was born February 21, 1939, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of David and Dorothy (Hill) Martin. The family moved to Sunburg in 1953 when they purchased the hardware store and he graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1957. Following high school, Mervin served a few years in the National Guard.
On October 16, 1971, he was united in marriage to Doris Oak at Pastor Swanson’s parsonage in Alexandria. They made their home in Sunburg, where Mervin owned and operated Martin Hardware and Lumber Company. He also worked as a plumber for more than 29 years.
Mervin was active in his community as a volunteer with the Sunburg Fire Department, a past City Council member, and as a deacon and trustee at Bethel Baptist Church.
He enjoyed spending time with family, camping, hunting, fishing, trapshooting in Belgrade, and bowling in a league in New London. Most importantly, he lived for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surviving are his children, Ricky (Stephanie) Martin and Tim (Andrea) Martin; grandchildren, Hunter and Autumn Martin, and Brayden and Weston Sewall; and brother, Chuck (Nellie) Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris, on October 2nd and brother, David.
