Michael Alden Christianson

Michael Alden Christianson, 61, of Willmar, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 9th. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16th at Bethel Lutheran Church. Visiting hours will begin an hour before the ceremony with a luncheon to follow. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar (www.hafh.org).

Michael was born on March 18, 1964, in Willmar, MN, to Alden and Sheila (Laffeen) Christianson. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1983. During his school years, he was active in wrestling and enjoyed assisting with the high school football team.

After graduation, Michael began working at Willmar Poultry Company, where he spent 10 years. He later joined Jennie-O, where he worked in a variety of maintenance roles. Michael’s dedication, loyalty, and strong work ethic defined his career—he remained a proud and valued employee there for over 30 years, continuing to work until his passing.

On June 6, 1992, Michael married Shari Bakken. Together they had his only daughter, Jenna, and Michael also welcomed three stepchildren: Sarah, James, and Jason. Though Michael and Shari later separated, they remained connected through their shared commitment and love of their children and family.

Michael was a passionate Minnesota sports fan, especially loyal to the Wild, Vikings, and Twins. He loved attending games with friends and family and treasured those moments. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time at family gatherings. He will be remembered for his quiet, cheerful demeanor and loving presence as a father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Jenna (John) Hanchek of Copenhagen, NY: wife Shari Christianson of Alexandria: stepchildren: James Rusthoven of Alexandria, Jason Rusthoven of Hutchinson; and Sarah (Derek) Bjornson of Madison and their children: Cole, Shay, and Jack. He is also survived by his siblings: Steven Christianson of Willmar, Douglas (Tina) Christianson of Hermantown and Susie Christianson of Bristol, PA; and by his many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Sheila, and his sister, Vickie Christianson.

Mike’s kindness, contagious smile, and quiet strength leave behind a legacy cherished by both his family and many dear friends.
