Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Michael Paul Giinthir was born June 5, 1965, to Paul and Joann (Stulen) Giinthir in Willmar. Mike attended elementary school in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1983. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the US Army where he honorably served until 1995. He continued his education at St. Cloud State University where he received his degree in Accounting and Business Management. On July 2, 1999, Mike was united in marriage to Carol Hanes in Cold Spring. To this union two children were born: Amber and Seth. They lived in Mound, St. Bonifacius and for the past several years in the lake house of their dreams in Buffalo. During this time Mike worked for Grandma Gebhard Company and Annie’s Frozen Yogurt, a career that spanned 30 years. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader, helping his son and many others achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid fan of sports. Always cheering for any Minnesota team, yes even through the losses, but his true passion was softball. He played, then volunteered for several organizations during his life, most recently being MN ASA. He often stated with pride that he was the President of ASA and attended conferences throughout the country to improve softball programs locally. He was the beloved caretaker of WRA in Mound. He ran many tournaments each year including the Mound Early Bird. He could be found in his “Bird Nest” admiring each game and play. He loved watching the Waconia and the University of Minnesota Marching Band. He and his wife, Carol, could be found slightly behind the band excited for every performance. But what Mike loved most in life was his family. He cheered for every win and consoled every loss for those he loved. Mike was the definition of a loving husband, father, brother and friend.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Amber (Kyle) Hanes-Stone and Seth Giinthir all of Buffalo; siblings: Connie (Zane) Cecil of Willmar, Pat Johannes of Willmar, Linda (John) Nelson of Hector, Dale (Deanne) Giinthir of Cold Spring, Amy (Dave) Spellman of Willmar; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
