Monroe "Rocky" Wallin, 92, of Willmar, died Friday, October 10, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes, www.hafh.org.
Monroe Avery “Rocky” Wallin was born on December 29, 1932, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Otto and Aida (Swanson) Wallin. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1951. Following graduation, Rocky proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
On December 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mildred “Irene” Peterson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. They made their home in Willmar, where they raised their three children: Susae, Stacy, and Scott.
Rocky worked as a cook for the Willmar Regional Treatment Center for 37 years and also worked part-time for Erickson Furniture. After retiring, he enjoyed driving for Clinic Cab.
Rocky was member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was also active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts in Willmar. He was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed many trips with the Eagles Sno Club. In his younger years, he and Irene loved to go dancing. Most of all, Rocky cherished time spent with his family.
Rocky is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Sue (Rick) Klavetter and Stacy Wallin; and his son, Scott Wallin (aka Terry Nightshade). Also surviving are his grandson, Chad (Elizabeth) Klavetter; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Micah and Lilliana Klavetter; and a brother, Everett Wallin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Oliver.
