Muriel I. Bengtson was born on October 26, 1926, on the family farm in Lake Andrew Township, the daughter of Otis and Amy (Hjelle) Thorson.  She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake.  She attended country grade school and New London High School, graduating in 1944.  On December 14, 1946, Muriel was united in marriage to Maylan Bengtson.  They were blessed with three children.  They operated the Bengtson family farm and later she helped with Maylan’s electrical business. She also worked at Sibley State Park, Bethesda Homes and in her sons’ tool and die business.

Muriel had a great love for her family and friends.  She loved to host family meals, celebrate family events, and enjoyed bonfires in the pasture.  She especially enjoyed sharing ice cream with “all the little ones” (grand and great-grandchildren) at Hillcrest. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she participated in choir, ladies aide, taught Sunday School and attended bible study.  She was known as a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor, putting others ahead of herself.

Muriel  is survived by her children, Lynette (Dave) Cors of New London and Lyle (Charlene) Bengtson of Spicer; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; niece, Marcia Nordwall and nephew, Ron Thorson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maylan in 1997; son, Lance; siblings, Alvord Thorson and Ruby Thorson; and nephew, Larry Thorson.
