Myron A. Bakke, 94, of Willmar died November 29, 2020 due to complications of COVID at Bethesda Nursing Home in Willmar. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11:00 am at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with a visitation 30 minutes prior to his service. Burial will be in Clover Leaf Cemetery in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Myron A. “Mike” Bakke was born January 3, 1926, in Bemidji, MN, the son of John and Anne (Sitig) Bakke. He grew up in Bemidji, graduating from Bemidji High School in 1943. After high school, Mike ventured out to the west coast with his Dad to work in the shipyards. Mike later joined the Merchant Marines. Following his discharge from the Merchant Marines, Mike returned to Minnesota and began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Crookston. In 1948, Mike was united in marriage to LaVaune (Vonnie) Davis in Crookston.
In 1952, Mike was transferred to Willmar where Mike and Vonnie made their home. Mike continued working for Northwestern Bell until his retirement in 1991. In his early years, Mike enjoyed playing basketball, softball and fishing. In his later years, Mike enjoyed playing golf and watching basketball, football, and baseball. Throughout the years he also enjoyed league bowling and gardening.
Surviving are his daughters, Penny (and Mike) Springsteel of St. Petersburg, FL, and Patti (and Kevin) Schueler of Willmar; four grandchildren: Sheila, Sara, Kristi (and Drew), and Amber; and one great-grandson, Cody. Also surviving are his siblings: Carol Boiese, Joan Bakke, and Gene (and Rose) Bakke all of Bemidji; and several nieces, nephews, and other family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVaune of Willmar; 2 brothers: John and Larry, and 3 sisters: Beatrice Wentz, Violet Christianson, and Ruth Snyder. Mike was followed in death by 2 additional sisters: Annette Hoisve and Shirley Wood.
