Nona Mae Clark, 93, of Kerkhoven, died Friday, September 30th at her home. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Thursday, October 6th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a Rosary prayed at 9:15 am, followed by the visitation from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass. Nona was born July 7, 1929, in Osakis, Minnesota, the daughter of Lambert and Florence (Juberian) Vandewinkel. She grew up on the farm north of Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School in 1947. After high school, Nona worked as a telephone operator and later as a bookkeeper at Pollard’s Elevator.
On December 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to David Clark at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis. Following their marriage, they lived in San Diego and Long Beach, CA, while David served in the United States Navy. When David was out to sea, Nona would go back to Osakis. He was Honorably Discharged in 1953. They moved to Simco, ND, in 1954 as David began working for The Great Northern Railroad. They lived in several different communities in North Dakota, and Atwater, MN before moving to Kerkhoven, MN in 1964. While living in Kerkhoven, Nona worked at the Gambles Store and also as a cook for Kerkhoven Public Schools. Nona was also a 50-year member of Kerkhoven Legion Auxiliary.
She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and since moving to Kerkhoven has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nona’s faith was strong and her commitment to her church was never ending. She was an active member of CCW.
Nona served as an election judge for many years and was a proud blood donor.
Surviving are her son, David Clark of Belgrade; daughter, Carol Haakenson of Pennock; four grandchildren: Devin and Amber Haakenson, Theresa (John) Herding, and Sarah Clark (Jason Fettig); four great grandchildren: Viktoria, Lauren, Clark and Rachel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, in 2016, her sister, Lois (Merle) Hanson, sisters-in-law and spouses: Laura Mae (Walter) Zluticky, and Katherine (Reuben) Price.
