Olga A. Swanson, of Minneapolis, passed away on January 24, 2022 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church (5025 Knox S., Mpls.) with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Olga Alice Swanson was born on April 25, 1915, to Jennie (Einersen) and Julius Halvarson. She spent 100 years of her life in Minneapolis, where she graduated from the Needle Working Course at Minneapolis Vocational High School; worked as a milliner and seamstress before joining the Honeywell production line during WWII, and later Control Data; and raised two daughters with her husband Harold Swanson.
Olga was an active member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time at the Swedish Institute. She was known for her great sense of humor, for remembering birthdays with the perfect card (including off-color ones!), her intricate handiwork, and for her love of all things Scandinavian. Her rusks and spritz were legendary.
Olga is survived by her daughter Barbara (Bruce) Halgren, seven grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Swanson, daughter Sondra Dickover, grandchildren, Charles, Christine, and Todd Dickover; brother Norman Halvarson, and sister Evelyn Hassis. A graveside service at Lakewood Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Thank you to the wonderful staff at GlenOaks Senior Living in New London, where Olga moved when she gave up her south Minneapolis apartment six years ago.
