Philip James Olson was born July 5, 1935, to Ben and Lydia (Schaumann) Olson in Paynesville, Minnesota. He attended Country Schools in Irving Township and Zion Township. Philip then attended Paynesville High School, graduating in 1953. On September 22, 1956, Philip was united in marriage to Betty Akre at the Assembly of God Church in Clarkfield MN. The couple moved to a farm outside Paynesville, where they farmed together during their 66 years of marriage. That farm remains in the family today.
Philip loved working on the farm and continued milking cows until the age of 75. When not tending to the farm, he enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing during the Minnesota winters.
Philip had a deep and abiding love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. His faith was central to his life and was nurtured through daily devotions and prayers for his loved ones. A lifelong member of Crystal Hills Assembly of God in Paynesville, Philip served faithfully as a church board member and spent several decades teaching Sunday School to the Junior Boys Class.
He is survived by his children, Valerie (Scott) Tollefson of Spring Lake Park, Allen (Jennifer) Olson of Paynesville, Michael (Laurie) Olson of Colorado, and Phil (Kathy) Olson of Paynesville; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Juanita Olson.
Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, on August 15, 2023; his parents; and his brothers, Daniel and Kenneth Olson.
Philip’s life was a testament to faith, hard work, and a deep love for his family. His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.
