Phyllis Harriet was born February 9, 1930, to Earl and Gladys (Jensen) Erickson in Willmar. Her father died when she was only nine years old and a few years later, Herman Beck, became her step-father. She grew up in Willmar, attended country school and graduated from Willmar High School in 1948.
On October 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Elgin Erickson and they had 10 children and she was very proud of the fact they all graduated from high school. She spent her entire life caring for others, not only raising her children but she worked as a nurses aide at Bethesda Homes for 30 years before retiring.
Phyllis enjoyed jigsaw puzzles (the harder the better), solving cryptoquips, baking (especially banana bread and doughnuts and she would lock them in the freezer, but the kids had a spare key), crocheting afghans, and going on as many bus tours with her good friend, Janet Gustafson. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting with people, whether she knew them or not.
Surviving are her children: Kathryn (and Tom) Berry of Colorado; Doug Erickson of South Carolina; Patricia (and Ron) Hagen of Willmar; Susan Davenport of Sartell; Barbara (and Rick) Carruth of Dayton; Joyce Larson of Bloomington; Daryl “Razzy” Erickson of Willmar; Daniel (and Joanie) Erickson of Evansville; and Michelle (and Mike) Reuben of Waconia; 13 wonderful grandchildren and 5 superb great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Robert Erickson of St. Cloud and sisters, Sharon Drumheller of Willmar; Lois Meyer of Grand Rapids, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elgin, on April 5, 2002; son, David; sister-in-law, Evelyn and brothers-in-law, Dick and Fred and all the animals she loved.
