Obituary

Phyllis Marion (Woodley) Tompt, 96, of Willmar, died Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  A graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo will be held in the summer.  Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, MN.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, hafh.org.

Phyllis was born Thursday, February 14, 1924, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Wilfred and Ina (Brown) Woodley.  She moved to Wolseley, until she was 13 years old and then the family moved to Fargo, ND, where she graduated from Fargo High School in 1942.  After high school, she attended NDAC (where her father was a professor) and worked at Armours in West Fargo with her good friend, Elaine Tompt, who was her future sister-in-law.

On June 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lynn Tompt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN.  Over the years, they lived in Fargo, Coleharbor and Colfax, ND and Porter, Willmar, Bass Lake, Spicer and New London, MN.

Phyllis sang alto in the church choir for many years and also in a ladies’ quintet that even performed on the radio.  She was in many bridge clubs, study club, helped with Boy Scouts in Porter and with the Girl Scouts in Willmar.  She was also on the altar guild and funeral committee for many years.  Phyllis enjoyed reading, cryptoquips, crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble and games with friends and family, telling jokes and stories while visiting with anyone.  Phyllis added spark and joy to many lives.  She was always interested in everyone else, learning all about them and having fun with them.  She was at a rehab place for a short time and was so well loved by the staff.      Then one of the workers relocated and when she came back to visit, mom asked her if she liked her new employment, “Yes,” the girl replied, “except there is no Phyllis!”

She is survived by her children: Gregory Tompt of Spicer, Peggy (and Mark) Morrison of Willmar, and Jennifer (and John) Russell of Cokato; grandchildren: Joel Morrison, Jay (and Tara) Morrison, Bobby Nordgren, Jessy Nordgren, and Ally Tompt and four great grandchildren: Allan, Miles, Reid and August and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lynn; brother, Dwight; and three sisters, Annabel, Beth and Doreene.  She was also preceded in death by her friend, Harold Cole and many other good friends.

Blessed be Her Memory with Love in Our Hearts.
