Ramona M (Otterness) Latterell

Ramona M. Latterell, 90 of New London formerly of Kandiyohi, died on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.   A livestream of the service can be found here. Ramona Mae (Otterness) Latterell was born October 28, 1935, on a farm in Dovre Township in rural Willmar.  She was the eighth child of Elmer and Anna (Peterson) Otterness. Ramona attended country school in rural New London and New London High School, graduating in 1953. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London.

Ramona married Alfred LaVerne Latterell on April 16, 1955 and were blessed with five children, LeAnn, Lori, Lisa, Mark, and Melissa. They first lived in North Carolina while LaVerne was stationed in the Marine Corp. Upon their return to Minnesota, they lived in Spicer a short time, and then moved to rural Kandiyohi to begin farm life. They raised crops and had a dairy operation. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1980, when she began working in food service at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center for 17 years. They retired from farming in 2001 when they moved to their home on County Road 8. In 2021, LaVerne and Ramona moved to senior living at Bethesda North Pointe, New London. In January 2025, LaVerne and Ramona moved to Glen Oaks Senior Living in New London.

Ramona was a longtime and very active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi where she served on several committees and church circles. She was ever helpful with making and serving food at church.

Ramona is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Melissa Grimsgard; siblings, Earl Otterness, Palmer Otterness, Manford Otterness, Eleanor Bidwell, Roger Otterness, Clayton Otterness, and Alden Otterness; and grandchild, Aaron Michael Martin.

She is survived by husband, LaVerne; children, LeAnn Larson, Lori Martin, Lisa Boie, Mark Latterell, and son-in-law, Eric Grimsgard; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Johnson, Karen (Andrew) Wall, and Ross (Alicia) Johnson, Jaime (Nate) Hultgren, Jenna (Matt) Tanner, Jeffrey Martin, Jay Martin, Alyson (Jared) Andal, Abigale (Justin) Piprude, AuriAnna (David) Mooers; Anna (Michael) Trebil and Anders Grimsgard; 22 great-grandchildren;  sister Mary Bloomquist, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Quist and numerous nieces and nephews.
