Rene Dee Fladung was born on September 24, 1963, in Van Nuys, California, to Richard and Mona (Hanen) Welch. She was baptized in Van Nuys and later confirmed at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Rene began her education in Van Nuys before moving with her family to Kerkhoven, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school in 1981.
After high school, Rene married Bradley Fernholz, and they made their home in Kerkhoven before later divorcing. In 1985, she married Fern Wilke, and they lived in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, until their marriage ended in divorce. Rene returned to Kerkhoven in 1994, where she met Scott Fladung. The couple was married on March 15, 1997, at Cedar Crest Chapel in Norway Lake Township. Together, they lived in Kerkhoven, Henderson, Colorado, and Sunburg, Minnesota.
Throughout her life, Rene owned and operated Crystal Cleaning and Design, continuing her work regardless of where she lived. She also spent many years working at Divine House.
Rene had a passion for snowmobiling, riding her Harley-Davidson, boating, swimming, crafting, interior design, and gardening, and she had a special fondness for peacocks. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
