Richard L. Dale

Richard Dale, 82 of Milan, formerly of Benson, died Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the Appleton Nursing Home.   Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.  

Richard Lee Dale was born on December 20, 1937, in Benson, the son of Lyell and Lillian (Lee) Dale. He grew up in Benson and attended Benson High School, graduating in 1955.  On January 12, 1961, he entered in the US Navy where he served his country until his honorable discharge on January 15, 1963, as a Second-Class Petty Officer.  On June 5, 1965, Richard was united in marriage Barbara Peterson at Kvitseid Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Benson where he worked as a barber and later in sales for TCI and as a clerk for the city of Benson, retiring in 2000. They moved to their lake home on Lake Minnewaska near Starbuck in 1997 and to the Peterson family farm near Milan in 2004.

Richard was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and former member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson where he sang in both choirs and was a member of the Octachords while in Benson.  He enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, golf, gardening, playing bridge, pool and planting trees.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.      

Richard died on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 82.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 55 years; sons, Jeffery (Aimee) Dale of Olivia and Jonathan (Robin) Dale of Benson; grandchildren, Kelsey Dale (Billy Bruche), Cody (Amber) Dale, Brittany Dale and Ryan Dale; great-grandchildren Otto Bruche, Ole Bruche and Henry Richard Dale; sister, Susan (Dennis) Wood; brother-in-law, Mike Gallagher and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy Gallagher and step-father, Harris Aaberg.
