Richard Melville Kleberg was born on September 28, 1939, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Melville and Alice (Swenson) Kleberg. He grew up in Fahlun Township and attended a one-room country school before graduating from Willmar High School in 1957.
On June 5, 1959, Dick married Marcia Mostue in Spicer, Minnesota. They made their home in Willmar, where they raised three daughters: Laurie, Shelley, and Kathleen. A devoted father, Dick encouraged and supported his daughters in all their endeavors.
Over the years, Dick worked for Henry’s Candy Company and took on various jobs, including tree cutting and house painting, before joining the Willmar State Hospital. In 1968, he began his career at the Willmar Post Office, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Even after retiring, he remained active, working part-time as a supervisor at the recycling center and as a custodian at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Dick could fix just about anything. He operated a handyman service for several years and took great joy in helping friends and family with repairs. He was also actively involved in the Barn Theatre in Willmar, both onstage and behind the scenes, assisting with set construction, lighting, and sound. Additionally, he volunteered for many years at Bethesda.
In his spare time, Dick pursued his many hobbies, including photography, model railroading, and building models and box kites. He was a hardworking, humble man with a generous heart, always willing to lend a hand.
He is survived by his three daughters: Laurie Kleberg (Kevin Morrison), Shelley Kleberg, and Kathleen Richardson; and three grandchildren: Dylan Richardson, Abby Richardson, and Matthew (Abby) Morrison. Also surviving are and two nephews: Scott Kleberg and Owen (Donnette) Kleberg; a brother-in-law: J. Daniel Mostue; and a sister-in-law: Helen (Richard) Rucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia, in 2021; his brother, William (Darlene) Kleberg; and his son-in-law, Rick Richardson.
Dick will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to his family, and willingness to help others. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
