Richard Mellies Obituary

Richard Ray Mellies, 72, of Prinsburg, died Wednesday, April 14th at his home. His private graveside service will be at a later date at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dumont. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Richard Ray Mellies, born in Wheaton, MN on October 16th, 1948, ended his battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021.

To many he was known as Rick or Ricky. He was stubborn, sarcastic, ornery, and funny, which made him...him. He was a duct-tape macgyver and believed anything could be fixed with a little duct-tape. He was not your typical people person,  but if you could take his teasing and give it back in return, you were then apart of his circle.

He loved to tell stories but hearing stories about himself made him grin the most..and oh how he had a grin!  He enjoyed cheering on the Twins, Viking, and Nascar. He had a huge collections of eagles. He enjoyed feeding & watching the bluejays and a red cardinal in the back yard. Rick's greatest joy was getting to spend time with his grandchildren and Harriet's great grandchildren, he couldnt get enough of the sweet smiles and giggles (and even shared his cookies and popcorn with them).

Richard married Darlene Beyer in 1973 and raised 2 children, Michae
l and Connie in Holloway.  Later he was divorced and moved to Prinsburg where for the last 20 years Rick has been living with Harriet Dittes.  Harriet was Rick's rock during the many challenging times he faced, especially for the last 2 years when he couldnt care for himself due to the cancer.

Rick is survived by his children Michael Mellies and Connie Rose. His grandchildren Samantha, Shawn, Sierra, and Teaghan. His sister Julie (Joel) Teberg and his nephews Craig and Bo. He was predeceased by Opal (Mellies) Fridgen and Ray Mellies.

There will be a private ceremony for the family in June at Dumont cemetery.
