Richard Peter Olson was born on August 29, 1925, on the family farm in Colfax Township, the son of Joseph and Inez (Larson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Covenant Church. He grew up on the family farm and attended country grade school in district #13. He entered the US Army on February 12, 1951, where he served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1953 and returned home. On September 10, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Carmen Pederson. They made their home on a farm in Irving Township where he farmed with his brothers through the years. In retirement he enjoyed watching old TV sitcoms and wrestling, family gatherings, visiting with neighbors, going for drives and wood working projects.
Richard was a lifetime attender and active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London where he served in many different capacities from singing in the choir, mowing and caring for the church grounds, hanging Christmas lights and a number of wood working projects. He will be remembered for his giving nature, always willing to help others, love of children and keeping an immaculate lawn. He was considered a jack of all trades and remarkedly always had the right tool for any job that came his way.
Richard is survived by sister, Ruth (Lydon) Norsten; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Olson; nephews, Ron (Barb Larson) Berkeland, Donn (Becky) Berkeland, Gary (Rita) Olson, Alan (Kathy) Olson, Craig (Deb) Norsten, Mark Olson, John Olson and nieces, Lynn Olson, Jane (Dan) Olson Badger and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; parents and brothers DeWayne and Reynold.
