Richard Gerald Otterness

Richard Gerald Otterness, 87, of Willmar, died Thursday, August 13th at the Olivia Nursing Home. His memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, August 21st at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. www.hafh.org 

Richard Gerald Otterness was born on September 23, 1938, to Russell and Gladys (Christenson) Otterness in Willmar. He attended Willmar Public Schools. Following his schooling, Richard worked as a general laborer in the Willmar area, holding various jobs throughout the years.

In 1963, Richard was united in marriage to Gloria Vasquez in Willmar. They made their home in the Willmar area and were blessed with four children: Leon, Roxanne, Jeannifer and Gina. They later divorced.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and especially treasured the time they spent together. He often took his children fishing and enjoyed playing Uno with them. He also liked riding his bicycle, playing softball and taking his dog, Shorty, for walks. 

Richard is survived by his daughters: Roxanne Otterness of Willmar, Jeannifer Otterness (fiancé, Santiago Reyes) of Willmar, and Gina (Randy) Nemec of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Gloria, Brock, Jon, Chris, Brittany, Reina, Jordan, Stevie, Laura and Pablo; great-grandchildren: Bentley, Kaylani, Chris Jr., Viesana; Bella, Israel, Isaiah, Nevaeh, and Nathaniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Leon Otterness; siblings, and grandsons: Marcus Otterness and Blake Horton.
