Richard F. Rengstorf, 89 formerly of Shoreview and Lake Elmo, died Monday, August 26, 2024 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 5, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at church. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Richard Frederick Rengstorf was born on December 21, 1934 in New Ulm, the son of Frederick and Ruth (Walz) Rengstorf. He grew up in Winthrop where he graduated from Winthrop High School. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota where he received his degree in International Relations. On September 30, 1956, Dick married the love of his life Catherine Wiborg in Lafayette. This union was blessed with a son and two daughters. They made their home in Shoreview and Lake Elmo where he worked for 3M in international relations. He retired in 1992. Dick and Cathy were able to share in 57 years of marriage before her death on January 9, 2015.
Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from September 10, 1957 to September 4, 1959. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. Dick and Cathy traveled the world together. He loved spending time with his family and was an avid bird watcher.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Paul) Carlson of New London and Naomi (Jeff) Jurgens of Lino Lakes; grandchildren, Nick (Desirae), Nate (Dua), Meghan (Justin), Josh (Meggan) and Matt; great-grandchildren, Addelyn, Leighton, Arlo, Bode and Graham; and brother, Robert (Judy) Rengstorf.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; son, Mark and parents.
