Richard B. Rierson, 77 of Paynesville, died Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. His memorial service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2025 with military honors to follow at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service.
Richard Burton Rierson was born on July 17, 1948 in Willmar, the son of Burton and Winnifred (Pfau) Rierson. He grew up in Willmar where he attended Willmar High School, graduating in 1966. In 1968, he entered the US Army where he served his country during the Vietnam War. He returned home and spent over 30 years working as a cook at the Willmar State Hospital. On April 20, 1985, Rick was united in marriage to Jean Reasoner at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. They made their home on Nest Lake before moving to Paynesville in 1998. Rick loved music, dancing with Jean, and going for car rides and getting lost.
Rick died on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud and shortly after, received his hero walk, where staff, patients and family honored him for his service. He is survived by his sons, Mark Rierson of Paynesville and Todd (Tara) Rierson of St. Cloud; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and siblings, Michael (Karen) Rierson, Brenda (Jim) Holtkamp, Steve (Sue) Rierson and DJ Rierson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents and sister, Kay.
