Robert D. Cordes

Robert D. Cordes, 85, of Willmar, died Saturday, February 13th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  His funeral will be 10:30 am, Friday, February 19th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with interment at Clover Leaf Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Thursday at the funeral home and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday.  www.hafh.org

Robert was born April 7, 1935, in Amboy, MN, the son of George and Louise (Weidenbach) Cordes.   He attended school in Winnebago where he graduated from high school in 1953. 

On August 3, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruth Doolittle at the United Methodist Church in Winnebago.  Three children were born to this union.  In 1960 they moved to rural Grove City where they farmed.  He also worked for several creameries and elevators in the area before retiring in 2000.  In 2016 they moved to Willmar.

He was an active volunteer with the Grove City C.A.R.E. program for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time at his niece’s resort.  More than anything, Robert enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughters, Cindy Lahr (and Steven Rambow) of Willmar, Roberta (and Elbert) Mahn of Spicer; daughter-in-law Cindy Cordes of Willmar; eight grandchildren; Corey (and Steph) Lahr, Amber (and Scott) Erickson, Andrew Cordes (and fiancée Heather), Darrin (and Kassidy) Mahn, Lacey (and David) Ellingson, Melissa (and Matthew) Minowitz, Sarah (and Matthew) Rathlisberger, and Matthew (and Alizabeth) Cordes; 14 great grandchildren, his sister, Norma Cole of Winthrop and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Dean, son-in-law, Tom Lahr and siblings: August, Howard, Elvin, and Dorothy.
