Robert Ervin Feichtinger (Bob), 92, of Willmar passed away Tuesday February 9, 2021. His Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Saturday February 20, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 167.
Bob was born on August 23, 1928 in St. Cloud, MN, to Gustave and Gladys (Page) Feichtinger. He attended St. Anthony School and Cathedral High School. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a WWII Veteran, served in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in April 1948.
On May 31, 1954 Bob was united in marriage to Elaine J. Marshik at St. Michael Catholic Church in Buckman, MN. They then moved to Willmar where they raised six children. Robert was a Conductor for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads. He retired in 1990, after 41 years of work.
Bob served two terms as Director of Willmar Community College Foundation. He was a member of the Kandiyohi County Historical Society where he volunteered many hours giving tours and sharing his vast knowledge of the 2523 Steam Engine which he worked on during the early years of his Railroad career. For 17 years, Bob served as a President and Secretary of United Transportation Union Local 1177. He was a member of the American Legion Post 167. Bob was a Global Goodwill Ambassador to Berlin, Germany and Moscow, Russia for the Friendship Force of America. He has been a member of the Church of St. Mary for 67 years.
Bob is survived by Elaine, his wife of 66 years; their five children; Janel (Gordy) Schmidt, Patrice Haglund, Dr. Dale (Sarah) Feichtinger, Robert J. (Alice) Feichtinger, Debra (Michael) Johnson and son-in-law, Robert Tucker; 14 grand-children; and nine great-grand-children. Also surviving are his sister, Doreen Eiynck, and sister-in-law, Lucille Feichtinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Ellen Feichtinger-Tucker; great-grandson, Levi Feichtinger; brothers: Berdell Feichtinger and Vernon Feichtinger; sisters: Frances Fitzpatrick and Genevieve Feichtinger.
