Robert (Bob) King Obituary

Robert (Bob) A. King, of Willmar, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 21st at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare, ND, with a rosary to be prayed at 1:00 pm, followed by a time of visitation and sharing before the mass.  Interment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Donnybrook.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson – Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.hafh.org

Bob was born on July 13, 1934, in Kenmare, ND, the son of Frank and Hulda (Egger) King. He was raised in Coulee and graduated from Assumption Abbey in Richardton in 1952. He later attended St. John’s University in St. Cloud, MN, while also working on the family farm and ranch.

On June 30, 1959, Bob married his “hometown girl,” Sharon Frank, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Donnybrook, ND.

Over the years, Bob held many occupations, including working as a lumberjack in New Mexico and in the oil fields of North Dakota and Alaska. In 1974, he became self-employed, founding R.A. King & Sons Trucking, which he operated with pride and dedication. Known for his generosity, Bob often brought home fresh fruit to share with residents of Kenmare. In 1990, he and Sharon made their home in Willmar, Minnesota.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, and he could always be found enjoying a good game of cribbage or poker. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who rarely missed a single event involving his children or grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Anna Marie of Willmar, MN; Anita (Jerry) Essler of Kenmare, ND; A.J. (Krysti) King of Sandia, TX; and Allison (Brian) Dooley of Hastings, MN; as well as his daughter-in-law, Lois King of Sandia, TX. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Cathy Lawson and Dorothy King, both of Minot, ND; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon; his son, Anthony; his parents; and his brothers and sister.

Bob’s life was defined by hard work, love of family, and a generous spirit with an infectious laugh that touched everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
