Roger K. Stehn

Roger K. Stehn, 89 of New London, died Monday, February 2, 2026 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London.  Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.  A livestream of the service can be found here. Roger Keith Stehn was born on February 12, 1936, and grew up on the family farm south of Danvers, the son of H. Irvin and J. Marie (Thompson) Stehn. He attended country grade school in District #77 and graduated from Benson High School in 1954. Roger continued his education at St. Olaf College for one year before attending the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Mining Engineering with an emphasis in petroleum.

On June 15, 1958, Roger was united in marriage to Alice Arntzen in Appleton. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters and one son. Roger spent most of his career working for Amoco Oil Company, with the exception of five years when he worked alongside Alice’s father at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Appleton. His career meant transfers to many places across the country and abroad, including Minneapolis, Chicago, Egypt, and Houston. While work was important to Roger, it required some family sacrifices.  He was known to prioritize his family and at times declined opportunities that could have furthered his career as he didn’t feel they would be in their best interest.  He ended his career in 1995 with Amoco as the Vice President of International Natural Gas. 

In 1994, Roger and Alice built their retirement home on the family’s Green Lake property, where they settled after Roger’s retirement in 1995. They spent their winters in Houston until 2013. They were gifted with 66 beautiful years of marriage before her death on September 20, 2024. 

Roger was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and had been active in several congregations throughout the years as the family relocated. In his younger years, he was a member of the Free Masons. He found quiet joy in helping others and supported many charitable organizations, including St. Jude’s Hospital and Green Lake Ministries. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering with projects, earning a reputation as a true jack of all trades. Above all, he centered his life on his family and deeply cherished the time spent with them.

Roger died on February 2, 2026 with his family at his side at Bethesda Grand in Willmar at the age of 89. He is survived by his children, Julie (John) Muffley, Andrea (Brent) Massee, and Gregory (Ann) Stehn; grandchildren, Bretney (Zach) Karsjens, Roger Muffley, Andrew (Grace) Massee, Hannah (Elliot) Eckhoff, Shelby (Nick) Stein, and Rachel’s husband Jonathan (and fiancé Wendy) Huddleston and great-grandchildren: Norah and Alyvia Karsjens, Otis and Sigrid Massee, Haley and Finley Huddleston, Jackson Eckhoff, and Brynn Stein.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents and granddaughter, Rachel Muffley Huddleston.
