Ronald M. Monson, 79, of Murdock, died Tuesday, October 8th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. His memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 12th at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be in West Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Sunburg. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Ronald Miltin Monson was born June 1, 1940, in Kerkhoven Township, Murdock, the son of Wallace and Cora (Finstad) Monson. He was baptized and confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church in rural Sunburg. He attended School District 40 West and Kerkhoven High School.
In 1958, he moved to Minneapolis and worked at Arrow Tank and Eng. in Edina, Able Welding and Palm Tool in Coon Rapids. Ron was united in marriage to Sharon Gafkjen on May 13, 1961, at West Lake Lutheran Church in rural Sunburg. They lived in Andover. In 1975, they moved back to the family farm near Murdock. He worked at Bertus Implement in Benson, Jerry Henry Trucking, Monson Trucking, TCI in Benson and Prentis Construction and Trucking in New London.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters: Chris (Brian Kaufmann) Quinn, Cari Monson; and son, Lee Monson all of Murdock; grandchildren: Jessica Thomas of St. Cloud, Shane (Amy Johann) Quinn of Murdock’ great-grandchildren: Darnell, Nevaeh, Darren, Thomas, and Kaleb Johann; sisters: Audre Wild of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sharon Pappas of Plymouth; and brother, Dennis (Judy) Monson of St. Louis Park; sister-in-laws: Rose Monson and Joyce Monson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; he is also survived by his second family, Dean, Gene, Merle, Connie and Tiny Mellgren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Cora Monson, and brothers: James and Charles Monson.
