Ruth H. (Quistad) Huisinga Meyering

Ruth "Ruthie" Huisinga Meyering, age 89, of Willmar, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 20, 2026. A loving wife and mother, Ruthie lived a life dedicated to faith, family, and ministry.  Ruthie was born on December 31, 1936, in rural Granite Falls, Minnesota, to Edward and Olena (Thorson) Quistad. Later moving to a farm near Atwater, where she graduated from Atwater High School in 1954.

On November 3, 1955, Ruthie married Roger Huisinga. Together, they built a life on a farm near Prinsburg and raised their three children: Rodney, James, and Rebecca. Following Roger’s passing in 1989, Ruthie relocated to Willmar.  On April 20, 2002, she married Donald Meyering and they shared 24 years of marriage.  Ruthie’s life was a testament to scripture, "Serve the Lord with gladness" (Psalm 100:2).  For over 60 years, she enjoyed singing in the choir at the Willmar Assembly of God Church and being active in the Christmas Nights of Music.  Ruthie’s service to others extended to Women’s Ministries, Decorating & Missions Committees, various Youth Ministries, Missionettes and into the community of Willmar delivering Meals on Wheels.  Ruthie also found joy in homemaking, flower gardening, bird watching, sewing, and baking – always cultivating a welcoming space for family and friends.

Ruthie is survived by her husband, Don Meyering; her children, Rod (Janet) Huisinga of Oshkosh, WI, Jim (Nita) Huisinga of Prinsburg, MN, and Rebecca (Will) McCraw of North Branch, MN; eight grandchildren: Mark Huisinga, Tracy (Greg) Burkholder, Gina Huisinga, Lisa (Andy) Hillestad, Shelly (Ash) Stoesz, Kristi (Nicholas) Vito, Victoria McCraw, and James McCraw; 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Quistad; and sister-in-law, Ida Quistad.  Also survived by Don and his children, Karen Meyering and Marty (Judy) Meyering; grandchildren, Wendy Meyering, Tim (Caitlyn) Meyering, and Steffi Meyering; and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents, siblings, Eldor, Chester, Bennet, Stella, Edgar, LaVonne, and Kermit.  A private service for Ruthie’s immediate family was held at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
