Ruth L. (Winter) Larson

Ruth L. (Winter) Larson, 71, of Paynesville, formerly of Kathryn and Litchville, North Dakota, died Sunday, January 5th peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Her memorial service will be 11 am, Saturday, January 11th at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm, Friday and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Ruth Winter was born on October 23, 1953 to Ervin and Ludwina (Ramler) Winter in Richmond. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1971. After high school, Ruth worked in St. Cloud at Eye Craft and Precision Optical. In June 1984, Ruth met and married Steve Larson, and together they raised three children: April, Jake, and Reba. That same year, the family moved to Kathryn, ND, where Ruth worked at the Kathryn school and the Eagles Supper Club in Valley City for several years.

In 1990, Steve and Ruth moved to Litchville, North Dakota where Ruth worked at the elementary school until her retirement in 2019. She was also a co-owner of the Tasty Treat in Litchville for 14 years. In July 2019, the couple relocated to Paynesville. Ruth’s commitment to her work and her family was evident throughout her life. She had a passion for gardening and garage sales. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she loved decorating, gift shopping, and baking for the season. Ruth was also an avid player of Words with Friends on her iPad. She will be remembered for her deep love for her family and her contributions to her community.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 40 years, Steve Larson of Paynesville, MN; daughter, April (Travis) Moser and their children, Landon and Sienna of Argusville, ND; son, Jake (Trista) Larson and their children, Peyton and Levi of Devils Lake, ND; daughter, Reba (Dustin) Mueller and their children, Blaire and Jojo of Paynesville, MN; step-son, Nick Blackcloud and his children, Savannah and Cheyenne of Grafton, ND; siblings, Adeline (Bill) Boucher, Mary (Butch) Kotz, Danny (Terri) Winter, Timmy Winter, and Billy (Cindy) Winter; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Winter, Joan (Doug) Mohs, Sandy (Randy) Lindahl, and Kathy (Mike) Kampsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Ludwina Winter; siblings, Rita, Joseph, and Mike; father and mother-in-law, Burton and Maurine Larson; and brother and sister-in-law Tom and Deb Larson.

Ruth’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Ruth is our spirit in the sky.
