Sonja E. (Knutson) Bergerson

Sonja E. Bergerson, 85 of Belgrade, died November 13, 2023 at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, November 20, 2023 at Crow River Lutheran Church near Belgrade.  Visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. 

Sonja Elaine Bergerson was born on April 8, 1938, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Sigfred and Idella (Ellingson) Knutson.  She grew up in the Sunburg and Brooten area where she attended country grade school and Brooten High School.  On August 26, 1955, Sonja was united in marriage to Juwaine Bergerson at Crow River Lutheran Church.  This union was blessed with two sons and two daughters. They made their home south of Belgrade and owned and operated Bergerson Café until turning to farming.  She enjoyed the quiet life on the farm where she milked cows and raised chickens until her retirement in 2006.  Sonja and Juwaine were able to share in 48 years of marriage before his death on May 16, 2004. 

Sonja was a member of Crow River Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, watching westerns, visiting and time spent with family and friends at the kitchen table. 

Sonja is survived by her children, Juwaine Bergerson Jr. (Mary), Linda Bongo (John), Susan Carson and Gregory Bergerson; grandchildren, Roxanne (Steve) Nelson, Christina (Travis) Hanson, Angela (Christopher) Kleven, Thomas Carson, Ryan Carson and Arianna Bongo; numerous great-grandchildren and brother, Kenneth (Linda) Knutson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Juwaine; parents and sister, Sandra Zimmerle.
