Stanley L. Marple, 85, of Cold Spring formerly of Paynesville, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the Paynesville Cemetery social distancing and masks are required. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Stanley Llewellyn Marple was born on February 9, 1935, on the family farm in the Wendell Township. Stan grew up in the Elbow Lake area where he graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1953. After high school, Stan served in the United States Army for three years where he was stationed in Germany. When he returned home he began farming.
Stan was married to Ruth Jorgens in 1956. This union was blessed with 2 children. In 1966 Stan went to school to learn the drafting trade and the family moved to St. Cloud. In 1977 he and Ruth bought the Hardware Hank Store in Paynesville and ran that until 1986. After the hardware store, Stan worked in Paynesville part-time for a couple of local businesses. In 1995 Ruth passed away. They shared in 39 years of marriage. In 1998 Stan married Bea Wendroth whom he has shared his life with until passing away on March 20, 2020.
Stan was a lifelong member of the Masons and the Shriners. He also served in various capacities in the churches he belonged to. Stan enjoyed counted cross-stitching, and scroll saw woodworking.
Stan is survived by his wife, Bea; children, Gail (Rick) Thompson and Glen (Nancy) Marple; stepchildren: Mark (Berta) Wendroth, Mary (Larry) Theis, Andrea (Steve) Ruhland, Jay Wendroth, Jill (Mike) Grunewald, and Jeff (Julie) Wendroth; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Teresa Marple.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; stepsons, Kevin and Brian Wendroth; grandchildren, Sara and Adam Grunewald; and his siblings: LeRoy & Allie Marple, Lucille &Ken Sundet, and Virgil Marple.
