Steven Swenson Obituary

Steven James Swenson, 70, of Willmar, died at home on Tuesday, December 31st.  His funeral will be 10:30 am, Saturday, January 11th at Svea Evangelical Lutheran Church in Svea with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar.  Please wear your favorite Packer clothes! Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.hafh.org

Steve was born September 11, 1954, in Willmar, the son of Howard and Barb (Olsen) Swenson.  He grew up in Willmar, and graduated from Willmar High School in 1973.  He was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member.  Steve served as a greeter alongside his father for many years.  He worked at Jennie O, managing the oven room where large quantities of turkey breast were prepared for the hotel and restaurant industry until his retirement.

He enjoyed cooking on the grill and did so until his health no longer allowed so.  He enjoyed doing puzzles, playing cards and was an excellent cribbage player, winning over half of his games with the best of players. He loved the Minnesota Twins and going to games with Brian Baerwaldt, going for car rides with his uncle Charlie, and later in life he became an avid Packers fan.  He was always willing to place a friendly wager on the Packers much to the chagrin of his friends.

Steve was so grateful to his many friends and family members who have been so kind and helpful over the last few years.  For the doctors, nurses and others who cared for his needs from day one as he was born a diabetic.  Most appreciative to his mother, Barb, who always cared for his every need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Thank you, Mother!!!

He is survived by his mother, Barb Swenson of Willmar; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

To my loving friend, since the 7th grade, Ralph Anderson.  We had a friendship that has lasted to the very end. From school lunches, sending cards, coming to the hospital, driving me around and staying with me to the end, thank you!

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Howard, brother, David, and grandparents, Orville and Helen Swenson and Miner and Lula Olsen as well as uncles David and Clair and aunts Mary Lue and Joann.  He was also preceded in death by his cousin, Carrie.
