Summer Elyse Schmitz

Summer Elyse Schmitz, 36, of Willmar, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at St. Cloud Hospital.  Her celebration of life will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 7, at Assembly of God in Willmar and will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page.  Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Monday at the church and continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.   www.hafh.org  

Summer was born November 9, 1984, the daughter of Barbara (Roberts) Sorum and Douglas Neste. She grew up in the Albert Lea area where she graduated from Albert Lea High School in 2003.  Following high school, she worked as a CNA in various Senior Care Facilities in the Albert Lea area while always continuing her education in various fields.

On September 1, 2017, she was united in marriage to Jeffrey Schmitz at Stonewall Farms, near Willmar.  This union was blessed with three wonderful children, Finley, Zander and Griffin. This past May, Summer completed one of her life’s goals by graduating from St. Cloud State University with a degree in social work.  She has been working for the State of Minnesota as a group home caregiver.

Surviving are her husband, Jeffrey, children, Finley, Zander and Griffin; mother, Barbara Sorum of Albert Lea; siblings: Justin Sorum (and special friend, Casey) of Royal Oak, MI; Adam Sorum (and special friend, Ashley) of Albert Lea, Ashley (and Jade) Riskadahl of Hartland, MN, Faith Sorum of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews: Ian, Dylan, Avary, Grace, and Henry Riskadahl, and Alexis and Decker Sorum.  Also surviving are her step-dad, Russell Sorum of Albert Lea; and half-brother, Mason Neste of Albert Lea; and mother and father-in-law, Ronald and Bette Schmitz of Spicer. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Neste; and her grandparents.
