Tammy Jean Hanson, 65, of Willmar, lost her battle to cancer on Wednesday, August 20 at her home in Willmar. Her celebration of life will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 30 at Bethel Lutheran Church. Tammy Evenson was born on August 22, 1959, in Willmar to Harlan and Elaine (Thompson) Evenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. Tammy began her schooling in Willmar, and in 1975, after the passing of her father, her family moved to St. Peter. She graduated from St. Peter High School with the class of 1977.
On December 10, 1977, Tammy married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Hanson at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home in Willmar and were blessed with one son, Travis, of whom they were endlessly proud.
Throughout her career, Tammy held several jobs, including positions at Trade Home Shoes, Kmart, and Cura of Willmar. Most notably, she spent 23 years working at Herberger’s, a job she truly loved. Tammy enjoyed being around people and was known for running into friends and acquaintances wherever she went with Dan.
Tammy and Dan were longtime members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar, where Tammy taught Sunday school for many years. She found joy in gardening, baking, and collecting knickknacks, but nothing was more important to her than her family. Tammy will be remembered as a devoted wife, a supportive mother, amazing grandmother, and someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand.
She is survived by her husband, Dan of Willmar; her son, Travis (Shaundel) Hanson of Kandiyohi; and her grandchildren: Zach Rudolph, Izaiah Rudolph, Kylie Rudolph, and Kage Hanson; mother-in-law, Joyce Hanson. She is also survived by her siblings: Candy (Vernell) Larson, Marie (John) Sprengeler, Sue (Michael) Sweeney, and Nancy Jacobson; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Elaine, her sister, Mary Evenson; father-in-law, Lloyd Hanson.
