Theresa "Terry" Horning, 84, of Willmar, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar and will be streamed at https://www.ourlivingwater.org/terryhorning.html. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the church with a 3:30 p.m. Daughters of Isabella Rosary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Theresa Marie Horning was born February 27, 1940, in Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of E.R. “Duke” and Elizabeth (Hengel) Lamster. She grew up in Pierre, where she was baptized and confirmed at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She graduated from Pierre High School in 1957 and then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings.
On August 20, 1960, she married Jon L. Horning in Pierre. Eight children: Jon D., Jill, Erin, Tony, Lee, Hans, Hayley, and Dena, were born to their marriage. Terry and Jon lived in Brooten, MN, Boulder, CO, Pierre, SD, and Aberdeen, SD. In 1974, they moved to Willmar, where they have resided since. Terry worked as a hostess and bookkeeper at the Holiday Inn and Fireside Inn, and later as an office assistant at Dr. L. Ted Anderson’s dental office.
She was an active member of the Church of St. Mary and was very involved with Daughters of Isabella, serving as vice-regent and state regent. She also served as a eucharistic minister and was active with the church quilting club, the choir, and the bell choir. Terry enjoyed bowling, reading, and volunteering at The Barn Theater. Terry was very supportive of her children and grandchildren in their sports, music, theater and other activities. She was a lifelong Willmar Cardinal fan.
Terry is survived by her husband: Jon L. Horning; seven children: Jill (Pat) McIntee of Randolph, MN, Erin Stuefen of Northfield, MN, Tony (Amy) Horning of Chanhassen, MN, Lee (Michelle) Horning of Big Sky, MT, Hans (Kim) Horning of Avon, MN, Hayley (Jeremy) Shibley of Burnsville, MN, and Dena Horning of Willmar, MN; and a daughter-in-law: Cathy (Glenn) Bangen of Spicer, MN. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren: Zachary (Amanda) Horning, Tyler (Trisha) Horning, Matthew (Savannah ) Horning, Ryan (Alexa) Horning, Heather (Cole) Christopher, P.J. (Kelly) McIntee, Nick (Sydney) McIntee, Maggie Horning, Shae Horning, Ivy Hicks, Fiona Horning, Ella Horning, Trey Shibley, Peyton Shibley, Maddy Oehrlein, and Sam Oehrlein; ten great-grandchildren: Hudson and Hadley Horning, Tate and Teague Horning, Axel Horning, Oaklee and Myla Horning, Everett and Lucy McIntee, and Breklyn McIntee; her four siblings: Dick (Maeve) Lamster of Eugene, OR, Nancy Zenk of Seaside, OR, Patti Arndt of Lake Oswego, OR, and John Lamster of Lead, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Jon D. Horning in 2005; and a son-in-law: Mark Stuefen in 2013.
She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
