Thomas Gene Klasen

Thomas G. Klasen, 74, of Willmar, died Friday, February 15th at Carris Health Rice Hospital in Willmar. His funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 19th at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Burial will be in Salem Covenant Cemetery in rural Pennock. www.hafh.org

Thomas Gene Klasen was born to Frank and Lillian (Mursau) Klasen on April 25, 1944, in Lena, WI. Shortly after his birth, Thomas and his family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Tom attended school at Preble High School in Green Bay and graduated in 1962. He continued his education at University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, Concordia Seminary in IL, Marquette University, and North Park Seminary in Chicago. Tom started working as a Pastor where he served in Ohio, Connecticut, Milwaukee, Green Bay and Hector, MN. Tom was united in marriage to Lylas Broberg on December 14, 1985, in Green Bay. Tom had an active pro-life ministry and authored two books. He enjoyed traveling to many places, but his adventure vacation to the Amazon River in Peru was the best. He also enjoyed golf, where he shot a hole in one. Tom was well-known for his sense of humor, making up funny songs for his children and grandchildren. Tom was a handy man who tried to fix anything, he even designed and built a house. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lylas; children: Todd (Sharol) Peterson of Rio Rancho, NM, Stephen (Michele) Klasen of Caledonia, MI, Kristine (Thomas) Zickuhr of Madison, WI, Sarah (Benjamin) Othmer Of Columbus, WI, Patrick (Krista) Klasen of West Allis, WI, Lane (Jenni) Johnson of Willmar,MN, Aaron Johnson of Janesville, WI,  and Naomi Johnson of Crystal, MN; sister: Shirley Champeau of Green Bay, WI, and brother: Ralph Klasen of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren: Morgan, Connor, Chase, Emma, Oliver, Jett, Sean, Nathan, Mackensie, Hannah, Kaelyn, Laura, and Starus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother: Roger Klasen.  

Tom lived at Bethesda Grand in Willmar for the last year and a half. His family would like to thank their caring and professional staff, and the Carris Rice Hospital staff.
