Tony Johanneck Obituary

Tony Johanneck, 69, of Spicer, died Thursday, November 20th at his home surrounded by his family. He was a 13 year cancer survivor and was proud of the research that was gained from his diagnosis over the years.

His memorial service will be at Tony's shop on Saturday, November 29th at 1919 County Road 27 NE Spicer, MN. There will be a prayer service beginning at 11:00 am if you wish to join and a celebration of life following at noon. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org

Anthony Philip Johanneck was born on November 8, 1956, to Alphonses and Beryl (Roberts) Johanneck in Litchfield. Tony grew up in Litchfield, attended school there, and graduated with the Class of 1974. On September 6, 1975, Tony married the love of his life, Sylvia Bergeson, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. The couple made their home on Sylvia’s family farm, where they built a life filled with hard work, family, and devotion over the next 50 years.

Tony was a gifted, self-taught mechanic with a passion for anything that ran on wheels—cars, bikes, snowmobiles, and four-wheelers. Racing was one of his greatest joys. He competed throughout the region and proudly earned the title of Grove Creek Speedway Track Champion in the late 1980s. He passed this love of motors and speed down to his children, often helping them to victory in all kinds of racing. He was especially proud of the homemade 4wheelers and late model car that he built.

Tony also enjoyed his work as a trucker, hauling milk for many years. No matter what he was doing, he brought dedication, humor, and a generous spirit to those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and friend—known for his quick wit and for being the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Tony is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children: Linae Johanneck of Spicer and Brady (Stephanie) Johanneck of Spicer; grandson, Adam; and siblings: Mike (Linda) Johanneck, Lynn Weiss, Steve Johanneck, Deb Gabrielson and Pat (Joe) Grebenc.

He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law: Richard Gabrielson, Dick Weiss, and Jeff Isdal.
