Veronica “Vicki” Simpson, 78, of Paynesville, died May 5, 2026 at Bethesda Therapy Suites in Willmar. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2026 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
Veronica Lynn Simpson was born on December 15, 1947 in St. Paul the daughter of Lon and Bernice (Driscoll) Foote. She grew up in St. Paul and later White Bear Lake where she graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1966. She continued her education at Mankato State. She worked for 3M and as a parole officer for Ramsey County before getting married and moving to Hawaii. This union was blessed with one son, Matthew. They later divorced and she returned to the Twin Cities. On May 15, 1983, Vicki was married to Bruce Simpson, making a family of five with Bruce’s daughter’s, Natasha and Jody. They made their home in the twin cities where she worked as a casino floor supervisor. They moved to Biloxi, MS in 1992, where she was a casino floor supervisor. They moved back to Minnesota in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina.
Vicki enjoyed fishing, crocheting, decorating cakes, making Christmas cookies, reading, playing bingo and visiting the casino. Her true joy was found in her dogs and time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and taking great pride in being a great-grandma.
Vicki is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bruce; children, Matthew (Katie) Foote, Natasha Smith (Cory) and Jody Simpson (Michael); grandchildren, Trevor (Angelica), Travis (Savanna), Alex, Courtney, Lexi and Jillian; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; Bruce’s parents, Howard and June Simpson; son-in-law, Jeff Smith and numerous beloved dogs.
