Vickie was born September 2, 1976, in Willmar, the daughter of Milton and Delores (Schumacher) Gustafson. She grew up in Willmar, graduated from Willmar High School, and after attending Ridgewater College, earned her degree from Minnesota State University–Mankato in 1999.
On September 7, 2002, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Hotchkiss at First Covenant Church in Willmar. The couple made their home in North Mankato, where Vickie worked for the American Lung Association and, most recently, as the assistant director at My Place – Mankato Youth Place.
Despite a lifetime of health challenges, Vickie maintained a positive outlook and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed gardening, playing video games, listening to ’90s hip hop and pop music, and relaxing with her favorite TV shows. Caring deeply for others, she volunteered with hospice and the humane society. Earlier in life, she had also been active in 4-H.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck; her mother, Delores Gustafson of Mankato; her brother, Dean (Lori) Gustafson of North Mankato; nieces, Larissa Laramee and Michelle (Adam) Mely; and great-nephew and nieces, Eli, Aleda, and Paige.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milton; her sister, Renae; and her grandparents.
