Violet Swanson, 84, of Kerkhoven, died Wednesday, January 6, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar.
A visitation for Violet will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday, January 10, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Kerkhoven. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven at a later date.
Violet Marie Swanson was born January 21, 1936, in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the daughter of Wallace and Ella (Halvorson) Loven. She grew up and attended school in Kerkhoven, graduating from Kerkhoven High School in 1954. On January 14, 1955, Violet married Merle Swanson in Benson and they made their home in Kerkhoven. She worked as a bus driver, a secretary at Latham & Parker and at Kerkhoven High School, at Jennie-O, and at KindleHope. Violet also lived with her daughter in Anchorage, AK for a short time and in Willmar.
Violet enjoyed singing, playing piano, reading, crossword puzzles, and camping. She was a former member of Salem Covenant Church in Pennock, and often sang there with her sisters when they were children. She was a loving mom and grandma and will be dearly missed.
Violet is survived by her three children: Sheree Rakowski of Kerkhoven, Jack (and Laure) Swanson of Willmar, and Kent (and Linda) Swanson of Brooten; nine grandchildren: Katie (and Robbie) Terrell, Tyler Rakowski, Erin (and Ryan) Helfinstine; Maggie (and Justin) Grothe, Bryon Swanson, Shane (and Jeanna) Swanson, Kristie (and Joey) Dunn, Cindy (and Michael) Roggeman, and Paul Swanson; and her great-grandchildren: Trenton, Keelan, Tara, Devon, Addison, Makenna, Caleb, Jaidyn, Ethyn, Alyx, Sophie, Jada, Zander, Koda, Tucker, and Cole. Also surviving are her brothers: Wally (and Phyllis) Loven of Kerkhoven and John (and Darlene) Loven of Paynesville; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle in 1978; her twin sister: Verna Loskota; and sisters: Marjorie Friedlein and Betty Wickman.
