Wallace Ammermann Obituary

Wallace “Wally” Ammermann, age 75, of Lake Lillian, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

His service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Willmar Assembly of God Church.  Interment will be at Bethany Reformed Cemetery in Clara City.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at the church.  A recording of the service is available below or at at https://vimeo.com/535081202.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Wallace D. Ammermann was born May 3, 1945, the son of Harry and Marie (Schwitters) Ammermann. He grew up and received his education in the Clara City community, graduating from Clara City High School in 1963, where he sang in groups and also played tuba in the band.  Wally served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971.

On August 11, 1967, Wally married Gail Popma at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.  Wally and Gail were blessed with three children.  Loving and raising his kids was his main priority.  He loved going on camping trips every summer, sleeping in the tent and making memories.

He sang in the Messengers quartet and taught Sunday school for 25 years.  Wally looked for “divine interventions” that God could use him to encourage youth that needed blessing.  Wally started a drywall taping business, Ammermann Interiors, in 1978, and continued working his craft until 2019.  Pheasant hunting with his son, Robb; brother, Will, his sons-in-law; grandsons; nephews was a great joy.

Wally was a member of Willmar Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the church choir, participating in many Nights of Music performances.  Wally and Gail’s Life Group has been a mainstay for them for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kristin “Gail” Ammermann; three children: Wendi (and Nathan) Vreeman of Willmar, Robb (and Jennifer) Ammermann of Litchfield, and Heather (and Matthew) Kleinhuizen of Woodbury; nine grandchildren: Ashley Kristin (and Joel) Nelson of Shakopee, Hailey Joy Vreeman (and fiancé Riley Aeikens) of Bloomington, Samuel Vreeman of New London, Morgan Ammermann (and fiancé Ethan Anderson) of Shoreview, Benjamin Loyd Ammermann of Litchfield, Sydney (and Xavier) Cole of Cottage Grove, and Sadie, Effie, and Finley Kleinhuizen of Woodbury; and three great-grandchildren: Esther, Elliott, and Edwin Wallace Nelson of Shakopee.  Also surviving are his twin brother: Will (and Jolene) Ammermann of Willmar, sister: Marge (and Myron) Bonnema of Prinsburg; brothers-in-law: Gary Bonnema of Willmar and Melvin Marcus of Prinsburg; sisters-in-law: Karen Ammermann of Fairfield Bay, AR and Clarice Ammermann of Clara City; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Richard (and Gladys), Gordon, and Harley; sisters: Dorothy Aalderks (and husbands John Aalderks and Richard Marcus), Elaine Marcus, and Corrine Bonnema.
