Wallace “Butch” M. Gilbertson, 76, of Hawick, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the St. Cloud Hospital. A gathering of friends and family will be from 2-5:00 pm Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Social distancing and masks are required. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Wallace Michael Gilbertson was born on May 21, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, the son of Wallace and Ruth (O’Conner) Gilbertson. He grew up in Benson, where he was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. While Butch was in high school, he moved to New Ulm, where he graduated from New Ulm High School with the Class of 1962.
On December 7, 1963, Butch was united in marriage to Marlys Weston Pahl in Benson. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. In 1977 the family moved to Hawick, where Butch worked as an over the road truck driver. Butch retired in 2006. He loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles, collecting movies, playing cards, dogs, NASCAR, and family reunions.
Wallace “Butch” M. Gilbertson died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlys; children: Shelley (Kevin) Sulier of Kerkhoven, Sherry (Jon) Norstedt of New London, and Daryl Gilbertson of Hawick; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Kris Gilbertson of New London. Butch is also survived by his siblings: Ramona Hall of Minneapolis, Craig Hartwick of Minneapolis, Lori (Patrick) Jennings of Mukwonago, WI, and Dawne (Russ) Soldnor of Reeseville, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents and son, Edward, in 2014.
